Why this site exists

The scenes from Ferguson — the tear gas, the assault rifles, the tanks — this is what America’s police look like now. Our Boys in Blue have donned camo, and in doing so, have sparked a debate over the makeup of our local police forces.

They’re increasingly aggressive, heavily armed, and stocked by the military but without much military training. Protect and serve now goes hand in hand with shock and awe.

As taxpayers and law-abiding citizens, we should be conscious of this military shift. Our civil liberties depend on it. Let’s not wait for another tragedy to re-spark this debate.
